PROJECT SUMMARY

Áit were comissoned by Dublin City Council Parks, Biodiversity and Landscape Services to prepare a design for a street greening/de-paving intervention for a pavement opposite Warrenmount Primary School in Blackpitts Dublin 8. The generously wide pavement was paved entirely in concrete and so identified as an opportunity area for street greening and to improve the environs of the primary school. We reviewed on-street parking and vehicular access points to identify areas of the footpath that could be depaved and transformed into attractive and biodiversity friendly planting beds.

The designs seeks to be playful in its hard and soft landscape design as a reference to the adjacent primary school, Soft landscaping is designed to be visually striking and to contribute to biodiversity. The planting palette is composed of flowering perennials and ornamental grasses which provide a recognisable structure throughout. The colour of the street furniture is intended match the existing yellow pencil bollards that alert drivers to the presence of school children, the matching bright colours visually link the school with the street greening project and provide an attractive space for parents and children to sit at pick-up and drop-off.
