PROJECT SUMMARY

Waterford Green Route

This project involved the regeneration of historic streetscape along the South Quays and South Mall in Waterford City Centre. The modularisation of the new paving materials draws inspiration from surviving patches of historic ‘Carlow Flag’ paving in the city centre. The dimensions of all new stone setts and flags are based on a 120mm grid. This allows for a degree of visual randomness / informality within panels whilst all paving joints are accurately aligned.Sections of historic paving flags have been carefully surveyed, restored and relaid in their origonal position over a firmer sub base. The new paving stone is locally sourced Irish Blue Limestone. The works were undertaken in phases to ensure the street remains open to traffic and for businesses throughout the construction stage.
